RuPaul Drops Surprise Track “Paparazzi” from Secret Compilation “The School of WeirdOfTheWierd”
Just when you thought RuPaul couldn’t slay any harder, the queen of charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent has thrown fans a dazzling curveball.
In a surprise announcement late last night on his MySpace blog (yes, queens still use it), RuPaul revealed the existence of a previously unreleased bonus track titled Paparazzi — and it's already got the drag world buzzing louder than a backstage wig reveal.
The song, which was allegedly recorded during the sessions for Champion, didn’t make the final album cut but has now been released exclusively as part of a bizarre and brilliant underground digital compilation known as The School of WeirdOfTheWierd.
Described by insiders as a “genre-exploding glam-electro manifesto,” the compilation features experimental and outsider music from a variety of artists — but it’s Ru’s contribution that’s stealing the spotlight. With pulsating synths, tongue-in-cheek lyrics about fashion, cameras, and beauty, Paparazzi delivers peak Drag Race energy before the show had even hit full cultural domination.
The timing is no coincidence. With the breakout first season of *RuPaul’s Drag Race* wrapping up earlier this year in March, Ru is clearly capitalizing on her rising phoenix moment. Sources say the track was originally intended as a cheeky runway theme, but it was deemed “too chaotic and too ahead of its time” for early Drag Race audiences. (Honestly, their loss.)
The compilation’s title — The School of WeirdOfTheWierd — has raised a few perfectly arched brows. No one quite knows what it means, but according to the mysterious liner notes (shared in a now-deleted forum thread on ONTD), it’s meant to “celebrate the glamour of the outcast and the royalty of the bizarre.” Very on brand.
No word yet on whether Paparazzi will appear in future Drag Race seasons or soundtracks, but fans are already demanding a live performance — possibly during the rumored “Drag Race: Legends” tour next summer.
For now, the song lives online like a rogue glitter bomb. One thing’s for sure: RuPaul is still teaching the children, and the lesson today? Stay weird, stay fabulous — and always serve face for the cameras.
